Outside geocaching before the rain - snow

Thursday, February 28, 2013

The TV news was giving warning of heavy rain and snow fall. So another early morning I was out the door just after sunrise. I left Dalhouise sleeping on his pillow - I was heading into cougar territory - and I was not going to put Dalhouise at risk. He didn't seem to mind - I wonder if he knew? - he ignored me as I dressed and put my coat on - I think he didn't feel like another long walk - he is still recuperating from the last two walks so he just laid on his pillow. I had hike this trail last November before I even ever thought about geocaching... but I knew where to hike too, to find the cache I was seeking. I am filling up my geomap with many little happy faces - soon I will have to travel away from my home to find them.
I came to the spot - my GPS at first was bouncing around a little - I looked where I thought it would be hidden - but no success. Looking at my GPS it seemed to settled down and I had to retrace my steps sightly and go off the trail about five feet and it said I arrived.. I go to the near by stump - figuring it could be hidden there - NO - looked around at another likely spot - poked about - NO.
Standing back on the path pondering of what I should do - I don't want to leave - it took about 45 minutes to walk here. I kick this rock - it moved - that was too easy - it should be heavier - I bent over to move it - it was a fake rock - the cache is in a hollowed out section. Success .....

Success - I sign the log book and replaced it as I found it and headed home. I am all most at my car when I feel the first drop of rain. A few moments later I am in my car and the rain begins to pour - I am so happy success - I beat the weather -- but No.
When i get home the Dalhouise is off his pillow and he wants to go for his morning business walk. Dalhouise don't you know it is snowing/ raining outside.. he doesn't care - he want s to go out and so out the door I go again. We walk for about45 minutes around the pond - that is eagle-less -- they have all left the area.
On the bright side my pedometer says 13,049 steps
