My friend passed away after her 9 month battle with Lung Cancer on Monday afternoon a few hours after being taken off support. I have been helping her son who has the weight of the world right now on his shoulders. I can't believe it is Thursday already it really seems like Tuesday. It pains me to see her son hurting so terribly. He is the one that always has a smile to share so sad that the smile has been wiped away. Yesterday I helped guide him on getting arrangements made.

I have had to put my Relay related activities on hold, although I am back at it today with my Event Chair for a few hours. I was supposed to help her all this week, she has been very understanding and even asked if I was sure about getting together with her today.

Monday morning my son and I went out and got everything he needed to be able to drive his first car. He was so excited took me back to the day when he got his first bike and how excited he was. He moved out a month ago it was so good to see him. His job is going well. I miss him alot. My son and I went to the hospital when my friends son called and had said he made the decision to take her off support.

I have logged in a lot of exericise this week partly because of the 5% Challenge and partly due to get out of my head for a time.

What a lucky guy your friend's son is to have you there to support and help him through this tough time. I am so very sorry for your loss. It is a tough decision to make and its good, for her at least, that your friend passed quickly.

And at the same time congrats to you and your son for negotiating another rite of passage for him. I remember that wonderful sense of freedom and worth that came with my dad handing me the keys to his car when needed...

May you, your son, your friend's son and all who are touched by her passing find peace and comfort - and joy in your shared memories...
