They say that breaking up is hard to do.
Now I know I know that it's true
Don't say that this is the end.

The lyrics from Neil Sedaka play through my brain.

Purging food stuffs, old habits is difficult. On tv, I've seen the horror on the faces where someone comes in to clear out the "junk food".
Hanging on dearly to the familiar, indeed letting is hard to do. That is why the Engine 2 28-Day Challenge is comforting... it is only for twenty eights days during lent, in fact. As I kid I gave up stuff for 40 days, so 28 days is completely doable.
Yet I feel resistance lurking within. Letting go of the familiar... striking out to find new comforts. I am both excited and terrified.

I know that this is what I need to do for me and it will help me heal.
But breaking up is hard to do and it is time to say good bye... at least for 28 days.

It is hard at first to give up those things that have good memories such as making cookies, pies and cakes with mom and grandma. It could be what you remember having a big greasy burger with fries and a shake with friends in school. No matter what it is you can make small changes today to make your new dream of health a reality. I love discovering new foods and making some of them my favorites or find comfort in eating them.
The journey to better health is a marathon not a sprint emoticon

Think of how exhilarating it will be each day now as you take the plunge. Adventure!

I think you told me long ago, letting go opens up room for interesting new things to fit in that space.

Isn't it nice we can talk out these things on the keyboard. I'm glad someone besides me thinks "out loud" on a blog....it always leads to breakthroughs. Guaranteed or all your SparkMoney back!!

I am so proud of you, and so in awe of your openmindedness.

On facebook I get links to the blog "Fat Free Vegan". Here's a recipe that showed up in my feed today for "Beet Balls" (meat balls). I always look at each recipe she highlights, but I have never been brave enough to try even ONE of her recipes! Not sure why. Too hard, too many ingredients, weird ingredients, uncomfortable using nuts this way, afraid we won't like it, may take too long, won't turn out....my excuses apparently are endless.

Hmm, all of those fears just jumped out of my fingertips in about 15 seconds. Obviously I need to consider facing them!

I remind myself that a lifetime of habits does not end in 4 years. Little by little,we will do it.
