(Hopefully Temporary) Hiatus

Thursday, February 28, 2013

I kind of disappeared from Spark the last couple of weeks. No particular reason.

This past week I have been bitten by a bug and was coughing, sneezing, and had a stuffy nose. I still have a bit of a cough, but otherwise feel much better. I haven't worked out in a week and definitely had some bad food days! I still lost .8lbs, which isn't much, but glad it wasn't a gain!!

I am determined to get back to work. I am going to the gym tonight to keep preparing for my 5k.

I am also really sad because my best friend of 8 years and previous roommate is moving across the country. It's really hard for me to make new friends and I feel like I am going to be super lonely here..she's the only one I hang out with regularly. How do people even make friends anymore ? lol Seriously. I work with people who are 22 and under (I'm 26), and well, they act like typical college kids.. I am too old for that. I also work with people who are 40-50s, and well, I'm too young to have things in common with them! It used to be so much easier to meet people when I was younger. Any suggestions?

Hope everyone is having a good break.

Kristen are you involved with a church? That is always a good way to get plugged in with people your age and it is always an encouragement. Hang in there you still have your husband and your pets to keep you sane in the mean time. emoticon

That is awesome! It's good music to walk to, also! :)

Going to see HR has what helped me to break out of my shell. You probably find it hard to believe that I used to be shy and quiet. I would always sit in the back and would NEVER go to anything by myself. We will get you there, too!

Well, you and I can do this! You just may have to listen to a lot more Celtic music than you're used to! LOL! Seriously, though... I'm always up for doing something, and you are always welcome to go out with me on band nights! :)

You need to find thing you like to do and go join groups that do them. That is what I would suggest. Hope you get over the cold soon and back on your schedule!

Glad to hear you are feeling better. Seems like sickness is everywhere we have several out with sickness where I work.

I agree with Oubache, some of my best friends are older than me. Just be yourself and be "friendly"... as the old saying goes.

Thanks girls!! I don't mind being friends with someone older.. but the older people I work with ...act really old. I don't know how else to say it lol. I mean I am nice to them and we get along, I just don't see myself as friends with them outside of work!

Try not to rule out friendships due to age. The older you get, the less age matters. I have a best friend who is 20 years older than me, and some equally good friends who are 10-15 years younger than me. Of course I realize that sometimes you want to be with friends who are where "where you are" in life, and I agree it's hard to meet people outside of work. I wish I could give you better advice!!!

You should try looking throught the spark groups for something local to your area (I found at least 3 groups for my city alone) - you'd be surprised how many sparkers are in your neighbourhood!
