making and not making goals

Thursday, February 28, 2013

So February has come to an end and March will roar in tomorrow.

The scale says this morning that I did not make my goal, I failed.

As I thought about that I realized I certainly didn't fail. I did not get to the number on the scale that I wanted but I did lose 3.6 pounds ( a success), I did make it thru month 5 smoke free (a success), I did exercise and my stamia has greatly increased (a success).

Sometimes we let the darn scale define us and it doesn't, it doesn't always tell the entire story. So I will continue to watch the scale and I will set my March goals for the number on that scale that I want to hit but the scale won't define me, it will assist me and it will be 1 chain in the link that is my journey to a healthier me.

Think positive! I think that your successes are great -- especially the smoke free one. The 3.6 pounds is success right there. emoticon

Yes, you are a SUCCESS and you had a successful month. You know, in the short run you don't have control over the scale. I find it more helpful to set goals that I totally control. Goals like sticking to my calorie range so many days. Logging 100% of my food. Exercising 5 or 6 cardio session and 2 to 3 strength sessions each week. Those things I have total control over. In the long run, the scale will catch up.

I spent 5 decades overweight/obese. If I had back every time I gave up because the scale didn't show progress, and I had just kept trying, I would have achieved a healthy weight decades earlier. Don't let the scale define nor discourage you. Just live and eat and exercise as healthy as you can and everything will fall in place!!

Congratulations on a successful February!! Best wishes for a happy and healthy March!!! -Marsha

I tend to focus on the scale too much too. One week , when I was disappointed with a gain instead of a loss, I got out the tape measure and took my measurements. The last time I did it was October 4. I was shocked by an overall loss of 17.5 inches! While I was waiting for the scale to drop, my body was making huge changes on the inside. I will never forget the impact that that experience had on the way I view weight loss!
