The Happiness Challenge Day 13

***** 3 gratitudes **********
I am thankful that my days of being bullied are behind me. There was a time in elementary school that I did not realize that there was life away from these girls who were threatening to beat me up and often did. I had a bald spot on my head where hair was yanked out of my head. It is horrible to live in fear of just going to school the next day. I am thankful that I do not have to experience that again and I hope that my daughter never has to.

I am thankful for a great seminar today. We basically had a debriefing of our expectations for our last practicum. I am very lucky to have my favorite professor as my last advisor.

I am thankful that I finally got my X-ray done. It’s been so long that I thought my issues were over until I started wheezing later today.

***** Journaling **********
Today we had our pink shirt day for anti-bullying. For those of you who do not know, it started in Nova Scotia by two grade 12 boys. Their friend in grade 9 and was bullied for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school. They started the pink shirt day to raise awareness and to encourage people to stand up for those who are bullied. The streets of Charlottetown and the whole UPEI campus were swarmed with pink today. It was a great day and here are some pics.
***** Exercise **********
Got nothing today.

***** RAK **********
I made my gift for Basil. Here it is. It says, “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires. – William Arthur Ward” Then I added, “Thank you for giving me the knowledge I need to teach young learners, the vision of my classroom, the desire to improve my direction, and the inspiration to become a great teacher. Taryn MacLellan 2013”
I have to think of something to say for the circle ceremony. I thought anyone else in the class would not be as hard as him but we are now doing something similar in another class and I am finding that just as hard.

You know you’re 70’s old school when you never learned to swim because Jaws had just come out… and you haven’t been in the water since. – Not really but I do remember the movie and I was quite scared by it.

Your gift for your professor came out nice. I'm so sorry you were bullied as a child. I can't believe how people can be so cruel. That experience will make you a more compassionate teacher, I think. Love the pink shirt day. The human race has a long way to go/ a lot to learn. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day! emoticon
