February Review (A&I BSG Roses WK4)
Wednesday, February 27, 2013
My assignment: Reflect back on what’s been going on in your life these first two months of 2013. What’s the best thing that’s happened in your life this month? Do you feel you are making progress, whether it be physical or mental? Have you experienced any “A-HA” moments or personal victories (large or small)?
The biggest change in my life this year so far is the ramping up of my job due to my leadership role in a huge project that will impact me and my schedule for most of 2013. I feel like I’m now at cruising altitude and doing well with all the challenges.
In anticipation of this increased load and stress, I made some adjustments to my healthy habits to make sure I’d have the best chance for success.
First, I recommitted to my physical training program for 2013. I decided to continue what I know works for me. Though I won’t have the time to participate in as many races this year, I’ve made a commitment to stay in half-marathon training mode. Exercise is big part of my mental health plan.
Second, meditation. After slacking off in 2012, I renewed my commitment to daily sitting meditation for 2013. I’m happy to say I’ve not missed a day yet. It’s part of my morning routine, and I’ve built back up to at least 20 minutes a day. No doubt in my mind that this also has contributed to my success so far.
Third, adequate sleep. This is a tough one for me, but I have made it a priority to sleep at least 6 hours a night. I can function fine for a few nights on 5 hours, but I know I’m not at my best unless I do get 6 hours. I had one rough week earlier this month and had to sleep in the other bedroom a couple of nights, but since then I’ve done great.
So that’s my stress-management system for 2013. So far, so good!
For February, I’ll get the final totals in and post another time on the numbers. I did fall short of my “secret” goal to run 100 miles or more each month this year. I came in at 92.59 miles for February. I’m still on track for making my “official” goal of 1,000 miles for the year.
The best thing that happened this month was going to the concert my daughter treated us to. I didn’t feel like going but we felt obligated, then it turned out to be fantastic and wonderful. I will never forget it.
There’s still one more day of February 2013, so I’ll wait for the weekend to post my top 10 best things of the month. I wouldn’t want to leave anything out!
