DH could use some virtual hugs

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

My FIL passed away early this morning - as they're on the west coast & we're on the east, I didn't know when I posted my earlier blog.

It was a blessing, unfortunately, he suffered from dementia for about the last 10 years of his life. He was 80.

He was a brilliant man who seemed to do a lot of the things they recommend after he retired. But he didn't eat great for much of his life or exercise much, either. I'd like to say DH learned something from that, but healthy living is not really high on his priorities.

He was also always interested in what you were doing, patient (altho he didn't suffer fools gladly), & willing to take you anywhere you wanted to go.

In an ironic twist of fate, they just finally sold their house on Cape Cod last week & my husband was already on the west coast for a conference. He was flying up to be with them as his father took his last breaths. I'm sorry he couldn't be with his family before, but the truth is his Dad left a long time ago.

He doesn't want me to come out & his mom doesn't want a ceremony - neither is a decision I understand but will respect. He & his sister want to have a memorial at some point in NJ, where his parents grew up (and my husband was born) & where much of his mother's family still lives.

Give your loved ones a hug & tell them you love them.

I am sorry for your husband's loss of his father but well understand how he really left a long time ago. It is still hard to lose a close family member. Sending him cyber hugs and to you as well. He sounds like a wonderful person.

Sending thoughts of sympathy. I like that you fully acknowledge your husband's wishes while at the same time not agreeing with them. Give him an extra hug when he returns home! And, be kind to yourself as this kind of stuff does take a toll on your emotions.

Very sorry for his and your loss. I was born in NJ as well - New Brunswick. I understand no ceremony as I don't want one either.
Nothing in the paper. No ceremony. No
nothing. Big hug to your DH.
