The Water Game

Have you ever distracted yourself from true weight loss by playing the water game? You know, the game where you drink a ton of water, take a diuretic, and put your feet up so that you can fool yourself into believing that you have lost weight? I don't take diuretics, but I have fooled myself in the past. I'm not playing that game anymore.
I'm interested in the 'fat game' where I exercise up to 90 minutes a day, follow my South Bear Diet (like South beach but with some citrus/berries and no soy), practice yoga before bed, and carefully plan my next day's activities.
That phrase 'Throwing In the towel' is a little perplexing to me, because what is the opposite? Picking up the towel? Well. . I am not throwing in the towel on my life anymore.
