Keeping it light

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Last night I went to bed with my upper back/neck hurting. So I rearranged my nest, and slept pretty well, except I woke up with my low back hurting. I did a very short bout of basic physical therapy - just a couple of minutes was all I could really do this morning, but did manage to walk at least a mile between walking at work and going to the grocery store. Then I stood up for some time chopping and prepping supper.

At work, my sweet DH sent me a text saying he felt pretty crummy, in fact, he called and made an appointment with his doctor for tomorrow, and asked me if I would make chicken soup, and stop at the grocery for a few things.

So I stopped and got the goods, and came home and chopped, and cooked a nice chicken and rice soup with fresh celery, mushrooms, onions, carrots, and of course some of our leftover chicken. I know my dh likes more salt than I do, but I didn't intend on making it that salty. I added more water, vinegar, more water, a little sugar, more water. My husband checked on Google, and it said if you oversalt something, you can add distilled white vinegar to cut the salt. I only had wine vinegar, so I tried that. It is tasty, but I told him it is probably not as bad as I think, as I really limit my salt intake. It was tasty, and he enjoyed it. I also brought home fresh oranges, orange juice, and a few other little things I thought he might like.

Although I didn't get in as much exercise, I have been careful with my eating today.

breakfast - oatmeal with apples, coffee
snack - banana, string cheese
lunch - v-8, cheese, yogurt, almonds
afternoon snack - orange juice
dinner - chicken and rice soup and half an orange

Interesting how when you don't feel well, you want chicken soup :) I hope its nothing serious with DH, as men have to be feeling pretty bad before you can drag them to a Dr..
Glad you managed a good sleep in spite of the your pain.. I wasn't able to :( But I have the next two days off until I have to do month end on Friday and play in a bridge game as well.
Way to go with the food!

DEBORAH, I hope Hubby is feeling better. It was good he called to make the appointment, I would be concerned if my DH does that. You have brought home some great food selections, I hope he feels better very soon.

Taking your exercises in small doses to help yourself getting better each day is very smart. Doing too much causes too much pain and it puts you off thinking about it. Been there done that and try to avoid it when I can.
Take care, take care of DH and if it is a virus of any kind make sure you have sanitizers around. Some people think the flu vaccine was lacking this year, I think one virus was overlooked since so many like DH and I had the shot and still became very sick.
