Yesterday I had my follow up appointment with my Dr. I feel a bit better, but still don't really have a complete answer or direction yet. I'm still basically in limbo.
My thyroid levels are approx 30% elevated. Of the symptoms I DO have for hyperthyroid they are: over exaggerated reflexes, fatigue, feeling shaky or jittery, racing heart, and hair loss. I am lacking excessive sweating or feeling pverheated, bulging eyes, and unexplained rapid weight loss. It appears to be pretty much down the middle as far as severity (at this point anyways... should my levels continue to increase I will probably see more of the tell tale signs).
There are a number of possibilities to explain the hyperthyroid, but I won't have a difinitive answer yet because they had to order more blood tests and order an ultrasound. They drew the blood yesterday, so I should have results tomorow-ish, and the ultrasound is Thursday. I should get the results from the u/s Friay.
I hate the waiting game. There is a possibility it is simply an auto immune reaction from whatever virus I had in January. Or it could be the onset of Graves Disease (a form of hyperthyroidism0. And there is the off chance it could be cancer or a mass, which is why they've ordered the ultra sound. The "C" word is never anything I like to hear in the range of possibilities, but I'm glad I have a thorough doctor who is exploring all the possibilities. The blood test should give a better picture if its auto-immune or Graves. Keep your fingers crossed for auto-immune. That is the best scenario as it would mean most likely my levels would correct themselves.
At this point I'm not severe enough to require thyroid medication, especially since I'm not displaying all of the signs, but I will have to monitor things closely. I will have all the bloodwork repeated in one month to see if they are climbing or hopefully decreasing.
As far as the UTI, the doctor changed my anti-biotic. The one I was taking for three days should have done the trick, but because it didn't and I'm still in so much pain he's going to try a different one, and if by Thursday I'm still not better they are going to ultra sound my kidney for stones.
I tell you, I feel like over night I turned 96 years old and I'm falling apart!! I feel absolutley miserable today. I'm hyper aware of everything and a bit freaked (but trying to just be cool). And to top it all off I feel like there is a giant gorilla banging on my right kidney like its a bongo. If this is NOT a kidneystone, I tell you I never, ever, EVER want to experience the real deal! Holy cow!!
Thanks again everyone for all your well wishes :) You remind me to be TOUGH :)
