Push That Tush - Challenges help me Recommit

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

The Challenge Iím on is helping refuel my commitment.
Having to enter my progress for the day
helps make me accountable to myself and to the team.
Being on this challenge wonít let me curl up on a sofa and escape from my goals.
I know I have things I need to do and an exercise I need to get done.

Iím not a reality show fan but today I read an article on Jillian Michaels from THE BIGGEST LOSER putting a disgruntled contestant in a coffin to make a point. The woman is prone to claustrophobia and was kept in a coffin for 20 minutes to scare her into acknowledging what she was doing to herself with her weight. The point was made and the woman had an ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT.

Most of us know that an unhealthy lifestyle can affect your lifespan.
A more realistic lesson might have been to put the woman in a straitjacket and tie her to a couch in an empty room, where she would be bored to death. Thatís what people end up doing to themselves when they dull themselves with a food binge and isolate themselves from the living.

The challenge has helped me feel more focused.
Having 8 weeks to accomplish this project gives me:
tasks, a timeline, and an objective.
Itís not MISSION IMPOSSIBLEÖÖItís OPERATION GET SERIOUS.

Cooking without salt has me satisfied with less food.
Itís still very tasty but Iím not tempted to over indulge.

Have fun todayÖLet the world see how amazing you can be. emoticon

I love being a part of the 5% Challenge, as well! It's such a positive way to have us make a commitment to ourselves. Keep up the good work, and congratulations on finding ways to get the salt out of your diet!

Hmm never thought about salt making me eat more, I know I still add salt to things, I think I need to try without for a while, see how I do. I know that since giving up soda my sugar cravings have nearly disappeared.

You oughta send that straight jacket idea to Jillian. She'd probably use it.

I was just thinking how glad I am I'm not on the Biggest Loser as nobody is putting me in a coffin. I have claustrophobia and would totally freak out. The straight jacket is a no go for me too. LOL.

Yes, I am looking forward to the challenge, challenging me also. The thing is, my PT today says I need to take at least one day off. How can I get my 120 hours of flight if I have to take the day off. This is making me sad and stressed. I want to help the team. I guess walking is still considered flight minutes right? So I can walk for 120 minutes? Hmm, that might work.

seems putting someone with known claustrophobia would be illegal if not unethical how do they get away with that

I watched the BL last night and I thought placing her in the coffin with the lid closed was just plain dumb - who thinks up this stuff anyway. The entire time Jillian was talking to her and they had a conversation going back and forth. I doublt very much that it really cured her of her phobia, but she said it did for the TV show's purposes. The episode was called "Face Your Fears" and was definitely not one of their better ones.

WTG on the Challenge - keep it up!!!

I don't know - sticking a claustrophobic in a closed coffin for 20 minutes? That sounds like unreasonable restraint and actionable. Jillian is NOT one of my favorite people.

I can see the point, even if Jillian is somewhat extreme in her methods.

I need to recommit, too. I cook without salt. I was surprised that food tastes better. Before, food without salt tasted so bland. Now, food with salt tastes bad! I hadn't really thought about salt fueling binges. It makes sense though. The less salt I eat the less I crave. The same with sugar.

Not into challenges too much but happy for you Sheryl. I definitely agree about cooking without salt except for chicken soup. It needs a little and I cut it in half to stay with the spirit. Love your blog, always so interesting and you add the greatest pictures.

It's amazing how sugar AND salt ramp up that appetit! Or is it?? They both activate the part of the brain that is activated with other addictions, thereby creating that vicious cycle of want, want, want.

HUGS and good for you for commiting.
