I watched the Biggest Loser Last night

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

and I wonder what their real message is. I am referring to Jillian and Bob's reaction to the two who spent the week at home. I get the impression that the producers are implying that the only way to be successful is to do it with the "Biggest Loser". Make sure you sign up for the Biggest Loser Challenge.

In past episodes, they imply that the contestants are learning the skills to make it at home then someone volunteers to go home for the week-at-home challenge and according to Bob and Jillian that was the stupidest thing to do. The best place is to be in the house. Of course that is true; the best place to play the game is in the "house".

I also hate how they act like an 8 pound weight loss is such a terrible thing. I personally think it is unhealthy to lose that much so quickly. But it is a "reality " game show. I think that the producers would like us to forget that. The object of the game is to lose as much weight as you can in a short time so you can win a cash prize.

This season has solidified my dislike for Jillian. I think she is a bad actress, especially when she is being portrayed as caring. Who is she, Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? However, she is a great trainer for the game.

Despite all that, I still watch the show because I like seeing the transformations as the contestants lose the weight. But I would not say that the contestants are an inspiration to me because they are playing a game and losing weight, getting fit and healthy is not a game.

I've watched BL since it started. I used to love Jillian and her tough as nails approach....not so much anymore. I've read a lot of behind the scene blogs on the show and I really don't think it is a healthy approach to weightloss and understand why so many contestants have a problem maintaining it after the show. Kim from last season often comments about how unhealthy she was at the finale and how this year for the finale she will come back a more healthy version.

Bottom line is it is a show. These people know what they are signing up for. Do I think it's healthy? No! But some of these people wouldn't have been able to do it any other way. We also don't see everything. We only see what makes good television.

I also thought the back and forth last night about Jackson and Jeff going home was a bit odd. I thought it was a good thing that they "went home" and had such a great loss on their own without the trainers. I was really confused by Jillian's reaction.

The makeover show is my favorite and I hope they do a better job this year of picking outfits and hairstyles. The past couple years it's like someone's grandmother is dressing them.

Isn't it fun - either to love or dilike Jillian or to crtique the show. It is a lot of fun!

I've watched the Biggest Loser for years. I admire the contestants for seeking out a way that will finally push them into doing what they need. Kudos to them for doing whatever it takes. They have to put everything out there for the world to see- they make their challenges very public. I laugh with them and cry with them, I feel everything they're going through. They are me! Their transformations are amazing and they inspire me!
However, I do not care for Jillian's approach. I would never work with her. As for the two who wanted to give it a go at home- yay for them!! They were positive and confident, just what the trainers want them to be. So, I agree, there was something else behind that.
I also question the negativity of only an 8 lb loss. Good grief! And Danni- how does she lose 10 lbs in one week- at this point in her weight loss?? That's crazy! How do they do that?
So, I look forward to Makeover Week next week. My favorite! The reactions of their family members is wonderful! I'm sure to have lots of happy tears!

I felt the same way about so many things you talked about. I always liked Jillian, not the most by any stretch of the imagination but I understood after a few seasons that she was trying to get the contestants to break away from whatever was holding them back sooner and then she showed them a softer side but this season she is so negative. These people are doing really well the exception of Gina's meltdowns they are all really positive and there is no real backbiting. She is just way too negative about everything. What I think has happened is that poor Alex has be berated so much that she couldn't see how amazing an 8 pound weight loss was. I watch it because the contestants inspire me...much more than the trainers. They have given me way more Ah Ha moments than the trainers for sure.
