Ran a race!

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

On Saturday I did my first race of the year and my first one since September, a 5k in my local park organised by a tv show here, our version of The Biggest Loser.

It was a very cold morning, snowing actually but the atmosphere was great. I was running with my brother and his wife was on the sidelines cheering us on.

In typical fashion, my brother who only started running two weeks before the race, sped off leaving me eating his dust but I wasn't there to win or finish first, I just wanted to complete it.

The route was fine, there was one really steep hill which threw a lot of people but it was great to see people out of all shapes and sizes and ages, people who you could tell were serious runners and those who looked like it was a new thing for them.

There was no offical timing but I think I did it in about 40 mins, I'm really happy with that, my last 5k was on a threadmill in December and it took 55 minutes so I'm getting quicker!!!!

I have another 5k in the same place at the end of March, I was feeling a bit nervous about it but my confidence has had a real boost now.
