A Trip to Africa and a Goal

Monday, February 25, 2013

I have the opportunity to travel to South Africa with a friend and I am OUT OF THIS WORLD excited!! The tickets are bought and we're figuring out our itinerary now.. My girlfriend who's going with me and I have been friends since college (30 years ago!)..

We fly into Johannesburg and the next morning fly to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. We're staying at a game reserve where we'll do a Safari on Elephant back and have a lion experience in the afternoon. Then the next day we go to Victoria Falls - one of the 7 wonders of the world!

Then we leave for Cape Town where we'll have a walking tour and a culinary class.... do a great white shark cage dive... see pinguins.. Then drive up the Coast that's bordered by the Indian Ocean where we stay in a B&B where this will be the view

While there we'll have the opportunity to Zipline, Abseiling (which I think is like rappeling), Sea kayak and Bungee jump from the worlds 2nd highest commercially run Bungee jumping thingeedo. The unfortunate thing is that ALL of those things have a weight limit.. yep.. the dreaded weight limit. To meet the requirement I have to lose 60lbs.

We're going in exactly six month or 171 days or six months. So I'd have to lose 10lbs a month which seems realistic.. am I crazy? Lord I would be so much more comfortable on the plane ride (15 hours).. as well as not have any limitations other than my own fear (HA).. So, I'm going to take it one month, one week, one day at a time... and I'm going to get off my butt! I'm actually thinking about going to a Biggest Loser Resort for a week to kick off my journey. Regardless, I'm going on the trip.. I can go as I am now.. or I can go 60lbs lighter. Tho choice - or the series of hourly, weekly, monthly choices - are mine.

Wish me luck!
Annie

When you are in Cape Town, be sure to take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain. It's an amazing view of the city and the ocean! Keep on keeping on! It's going to be soooooo worth the work you're doing now for the trip of a lifetime! South Africa is BEAUTIFUL!

That is so so awesome about the trip! I think I would be scared to death to do a great white shark cage though--I don't think I'd do it (one of my irrational fears-death by shark).

I hate the dreaded weight limit thing too (that's why I've never gone scuba diving, though I would like to). I'm wishing you success in getting there. Ziplining is where you're hooked to a harness which is on a cable, at the top of a place--say, a cliff overlooking a bay--and then wheeeeee! you get to the bottom very quickly on the zip line. It's zippy, get it?

Here's an interesting post I read the other day (someone on my twitter timeline tweeted it), the guy makes some good points: http://www.dumblittleman.com/2013/0

Keep coming around here for support, Annie. We're all on your side! and I'm sure you'll get all sorts of advice/tips ranging from the good, the bad & the ugly. The point is, though...we can all relate. I know I sure can.

I'm wishing you luck, yes. Mostly, though, I'm cheering you on as you make your choices every day. First the dream, then the reality. You Can Do It! I believe in you, Annie, whether you lose 6 pounds or 60.

Annie you can do this! A trip to France (which ended up being cancelled - not by me) was the catalyst that got me and kept me on a healthy path. Just keep picturing yourself participating in all of these activities at a healthier weight with a HUGE smile on your face. You are a beautiful intelligent woman and you know what you need to do. We are all here for you cheering you on.

    Hugs,
    Bonnie

.S. I want to come with you and do everything except the shark dive. I would for sure crap my pants and have a heart attack.

You can do it! Or like PONYFARMER said get as much as you can off and then you will be happy no matter what. I finally got my head straight after my second child with a similar goal although not nearly as exotic. I'm 7 weeks out from a trip and I'm shooting for 2 lbs a week. I know that's probably not going to happen but if I keep my calorie differential in check I'll know I did my best. I'm only 9 days in but I feel like I use to when I was avidly exercising, logging and so forth here on Spark. I'm really thinking this time it's going to stick, as I've tried several times and never stuck with it.
Oh my, I'm sorry I've rambled. Point is - set a goal and do everything you can. Then you will be ok with whatever progress you have made. Don't get on that plane and think "what if I had....."

    Let's do this!!

I think you can do it! No matter, you can at least get off as muchf as possible and you will feel great. I think the BL resort is an excellent idea and if I could afford it, I would go.

emoticon on the trip of a lifetime and emoticon experience lays ahead for you.

emoticon and do not look back. I know that emoticon !!!
