Adventures In Oklahoma Weather & Driving

Monday, February 25, 2013

I DO Realize that our weather is Not Nearly as severe as what many of you are dealing with this week! But it still amazes me that it can change SO Drastically in 24 hours!!
emoticon Yesterday afternoon I walked at the Park, and all I needed was a Sweater and a Hat. I would not have even needed the Sweater if it hadn't been so windy. It was 63 degrees.
emoticon This morning when I left for work, it was down 30 degrees and RAINING. I was running late anyhow and as I approached a busy intersection, the light changed as I was approaching getting ready to make a right turn. I did Yield -- Just Barely! -- and then because a car was approaching in the right lane, I moved immediately into the Center Lane as I made the turn. Problem with that? I DIDN'T see the Oklahoma City Police Car approaching in the Center Lane!!
emoticon The Red-Blue Flashy Lights are NOT as Pretty when they are in YOUR Rear View Mirror. Especially when you know that you just did something REALLY Stupid!! He was VERY Nice, though. Scolded me and reminded me that I need to stay in the Right Lane when I make a Right Turn (normally I do!!).
emoticon Because of the dropping temperatures and Blizzard Forecast, I took off work an hour Early. I ate Lunch, came home, Triple Checked the Forecast, then went to the Gym.
emoticon I figured the Gym would be dead due to the Weather, but it was actually pretty busy. As I told one of the other members "I don't know if we are 'Dedicated' or 'Obsessed'". By the time I finished my 30 minutes on the Treadmill, the rain had changed to Sleet! The car was almost covered by the stuff!!
emoticon The temperature was down to 33 (it was 63 degrees exactly 24 hours earlier!!) and I took the "Long Way" home to avoid the heavy traffic area in front of Wal-Mart and McDonalds. I was VERY careful, and the car is DEFINITELY parked for the night.
emoticon Hopefully the Blizzard won't be too bad and Gary and I can walk to 7-11 later for my Bedtime Coffee!! Today will be 679 Days in a Row that we have walked for At Least 10 minutes, usually longer than that!

Sounds like the screwy weather we have in Western Kentucky. They say if you don't like it, hang around it'll change really soon. I hate those 40 degree drops in the summer with thunderstorms cause you know they're severe. Wintertime drops are rotten too. Glad you made it home. Hope you get that walk in!

Wow, and I thought California was being wonky with the weather. Today in it is in the 80's. By Wednesday of next week it is going to be in the 60's and raining. So strange.

Oh my gosh, stay safe on the roads, especially if the rain turns to sleet. Glad you got only a scolding from the nice officer! I don't know about you, but I am ready for some warmer days.
Good job on getting to the gym!

Glad you made it home safe. We supposedly got 3 inches of snow over night. But the road look good. Better than last week, when they were icy. I like the snow and cold weather, but it keeps me inside too much. I would be ok to go out in it, but don't want to take the little one out in it for too long.

Wow, your weather descriptions make my arthritic joints ache even more. Makes me grateful that I work from my home PC and have a variety of in-home exercise equipment spread around the house. Would be more grateful if the equipment were consolidated in one large room!!

Glad you didn't get into an auto accident and impressed that you are being diligent about your physical activity. Keep on Sparking!
