I enjoy our more active friend-dates nowadays

Ever since I got healthy and dragged my husband on the health foods and daily exercise bandwagon (not that he was overweight, inactive, or unhealthy before...but I got him more interested in eating healthfully and making sure he gets his cardio in every day), we've changed how we hang out with friends, and I love it! We used to meet up for lunch at a restaurant or something if we were going to hang out with people we didn't often get a chance to see. But now we try to set up more active meetings - instead of going out to eat, we'll play tennis, for example. Today, we had a friend come visit us and okay, we did go out to eat, but before we did so we took the friend hiking for over an hour at a local state park. In the rain. I felt kind of bad, but he didn't seem to mind. And this friend is a dear, dear person and very sweet and very kind, and I do not mean to sound judgmental or anything because I love him to pieces, but he is definitely overweight and not a very active person...so I take some pleasure in the fact that we are kind of encouraging more active behaviors when we get together. I feel like that sounds terribly condescending, but I don't mean it that way.
Anyways, it's just nice to actually do activities together that keep us all healthier AND are cheaper! It costs nothing to go hit some tennis balls at the local high school!
[As for when we do go out to eat, I try very hard to eat well. Today, we went to a Thai restaurant and instead of getting pad thai with chicken, which I love, I got a stir-fried vegetable dish with a garlic sauce. My husband ate most of my rice and some of my veggies, I ate the rest of my relatively smallish pile of veggies and sauce (which was delicious), and then I sampled a little of his tofu pad thai - got my pad thai fix without the temptation to overindulge and eat a whole plate in one sitting, and I also branched out and tried something new! So I felt like I did pretty good for eating out this time. :)]
