Yesterday I went to visit my dad, who just had his hip replaced, and we visited too long to go for our usual Saturday hike. So, today we went to the Audubon Society bird sanctuary and did a short hike. The weather was really nice, actually a little sunny. We didn't see any birds, ironically, but we did see some newts in the pond there. They also have a nature center there with an animal rehab where we saw some of the resident rescued birds that are caged (the ones they can't release back into the wild). They have a huge raven there that says "Hi" and "Bye" when you walk by. We discovered another, longer trail that we can visit another day. It was fun.
After that we went to an Indian restaurant that had a lunch buffet that we wanted to try. I probably ate too much, but I tried to be moderate, using a small plate and just having small servings of everything and only one small piece of naan bread.(I could eat a ton of that!) It was delicious! Buffets are hard when one is trying to eat less...
Then we went to our local food co-op (Peoples) and I got some sprouting seeds to try. I got a sprouter a little while ago and have been sprouting a mix of seeds that i got online, but the mix I got has too many radish seeds for me, and I wanted to try something new. I got red clover and oat groats. Sprouting is fun, I had never tried it before, and I have always liked them. I guess there were some outbreaks of a food-bourne disease in a few commercial sprouting facilities, and now you have a hard time finding sprouts in the grocery store. So I started growing my own.
So far it has been a great day and I will probably make some black bean soup for dinner.
I hope everyone's weekend was as great as mine was!
