Hi from the strip...

Sunday, February 24, 2013

We are in vegas this week. There is so little "healthy" food here. No grocery stores...candy at the few casino convenience stores.

This is a tough thing for me. I need to solve it as we come often and need a "plan". We have no car to travel and taxi is about $60 round trip. The resort shuttles go only to casios.

We do have a frige, but no way to fill it. Can't bring home healthy leftovers from buffets (which are expensive, but do give healthier choices if one looks for them.)

I neglected to say we flew in and did not get a car this time.

I need to find some answers for this. Any suggestions? Otherwise, having fun!

Drive or take a taxi to one of THREE Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, or various other healthy food stores:

    http://www.yelp.com/
    search?find_desc=Natural+Health
    +Food+Stores&find_loc=Las+Vegas
    %2C+NV

Since you go there often I thought you would appreciate knowing that there are plenty of options!

    That's my suggestion,

P.S. There's also great walking available "off the strip" at Red Rock Canyon:

Could you car/taxi pool with some other visitors and go to where the locals shop?

If you can't leave the strip sometimes the Walgreens by the Palazzo has fresh fruit. You might have to search for it a bit but I've seen baskets of apples and bananas over by the refrigerated fruit juices. I pick up some granola bars and dried dates and raisins when I'm there...they are a little pricier than you'd find in most grocery stores though. Also, the Starbucks by TI had bananas, fruit, and deli snacks last time I stopped by. Again, since you're on the strip, it will be a little pricey. Also check out the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf locations inside the Canal Shoppes at the Venetian, I've seen fresh fruit offerings there too.

If you can hop on the SDX bus, one of two lines that run up and down the strip, take it south to Town Square. There's a Whole Foods there. I haven't been inside so I can't tell you the prices but it's easily accessible from the strip.

You didn't say how you got to Vegas - Plane? Car? Vegas does have grocery stores - so try to look one up in the phone book. Eat healthy buffet's - and try to take snacks back to your room like crackers and fruit...I love Vegas and lived there for a few years - Good Luck - enjoy your time there...

I always gain weight while traveling no matter how careful I am. The buffets out there are fat heavy, though,to make people feel full faster.
