Gratitude for our bodies

Sunday, February 24, 2013

To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear. Buddha

Though I haven't been showing my body much love today, I'm going to push onward and take a stab at showing it appreciation. I know that hating myself thin is never going to work, so here I am, overly full and overweight, ready to show my body some love.

Dear Body,

Thank you for...

Allowing me to hear, see, smell, taste, touch and feel.
Allowing me to spend over an hour exercising today.
Allowing me to bend, stretch, walk, climb stairs, and move around my home.
Allowing me to accomplish so much in the hours I spend awake.

I know I've been putting you through a lot lately and I know I've been taking you for granted. Thank you for functioning so well nonetheless.

I promise to take much better care of you now.

Wise words that Buddha spoke. Keep on trying and eventually you'll get everything in sync!

I think making peace with our bodies is one of the most fundamental parts of this health journey. I'm currently at my heaviest weight in my adult life, but I've never felt more good about my body. I can't even tell you how it happened for me; something just clicked. I know I will lose weight eventually but I am learning to find motivation in just how my body feels. Today I feel strong. Thanks for an insightful post.
