Summer is nearly over

Sunday, February 24, 2013

...but the weather is gorgeous.
I spent the afternoon in the garden spreading compost on my newly excavated flower beds and transplanting irises onto the stony banks under the trees. It was sunny all day, too hot to work in the sun but I was in dappled shade. There was a real din from the birds and my chickens came down to help with the compost. I cleared out a whole bin, quite a lot of compost to shift. While I did that we had a fire to burn our prunings.

What a great day. I am really beginning to see a difference in the garden and the season is just starting to turn, slightly cooler in the evenings, so perfect planting weather.

Now my back is aching, but so worthwhile.

    How wintery are your winters?
I think you are close to water so have damp cold?

The title of your blog, displayed in one of our common teams, really intrigued me. The curiosity got the best of me when I read "summer" and "nearly over"... while I can't see the end of winter over here! :)

Enjoy your sunny days, and the changes in your garden... don't think about winter, it will come soon enough!
