Silver Linings Playbook

Saturday, February 23, 2013

I finally saw this movie tonight with my hubby. It was an emotional experience for me right from the beginning of the story. My youngest son (he is now 25) has struggled with mood swings indicative of Bi-Polar Disorder as well as Asperger's Syndrome (a form of Autism). Unfortunately, the drama that accompanies many mental disorders rings true to me in this movie. It can be frightening and exhausting! My son now lives on his own; he has chosen to emotionally and physically distance himself from family members. Although this is sad & difficult to accept, it has restored some order & peace to my current life.

May you find peace in your heart. Your son has chosen his own path and as hard as it is to let go, sometimes it is for your own well being. Put yourself first and you will succeed.

I am glad you have a little peace in your life. I pray your son also finds the peace he needs to continue on the very hard path he lives. It is very sad that mental illness is not talked about and often hidden I hope this will change and more people get the help they need sooner hugs.

I really know how hard this is for you. My best friend's daughter has Asperger's Syndrome and just left college because she couldn't handle it. Hang in there! You seem like a wonderful parent and you will figure this out. You have friends here and lots of support!!

Saw the movie. Some good messaging. Sorry to hear that your son struggles with these disorders. Mental illness is so difficult for the individual as well as all those around them. Take care of yourself! That is most important!

I work with students who are on the autism spectrum and who often are extremely violent and who frequently have additional psychological diagnoses. My own son has asperger's syndrome and also some other psych diagnoses. He lived on his own for a long time and returned to live with me about 7 years ago - he is 45. I will keep you and your family in my prayers - I have walked MANY miles in shoes like yours too.

...and Peace is all that we can ask for.

Hoping your son has found a bit of Peace too, and that he will be comfortable someday, with reconnecting with everyone.

Blessings and Prayers.

It's a great film and, in fact, the director (who also adapted the novel) has a son who is also bipolar. It was important to him to show that happiness can be attained even with this condition. I am glad that you have peace in your life and I wish the best for you and your entire family.
