Helping others as others are helping me!

Saturday, February 23, 2013

Today I spent time driving around picking up donations for a fundraiser. The fundraiser is for a little girl that just turned 10 that has a brain tumor. I went to high school with her dad and her mom did some observations in my classroom while getting her teaching degree. The mom now works at the elementary school that my youngest still goes to.

Anyway, I got to pick up donations and make some calls about others. I felt pretty good about what I accomplished today. I got a stuffed bear from Build A Bear, cupcakes from a local cupcake shop, Gigi's Cupcakes and an anonymous donor gave items from Three Dog Bakery. I have a tentative donation for one horseback riding lesson. The people that donated are also networking to see if they can get others to contribute, too. It was a good day! emoticon

Then, I caught up with the comments on my SparkPage and all the goodies that I've been given lately. I sure have a lot of support from my SparkFriends!! I've also had many people add me as their SparkFriend. What an honor! I've returned the favor to all!

Once again I am reminded how great the people are here!! This is exactly why I was successful on my second attempt to lose weight! The first time I just logged food and exercise, but in January of 2011 I got smart. When I came back, I joined teams, created a SparkPage and started blogging...this was the difference! YOU made the difference!! Each and everyone of you that befriended me or simply stopped by and left a message of support on one of my blogs. Without YOU, I couldn't have lost the weight or maintained my weight loss. Just knowing that others are on the same journey is comforting. BUT having friends that are on the same journey is EPIC!

I really wish that I could meet each and everyone of you face-to-face to personally thank you! This is as close as I can get so THANK YOU, FRIENDS! emoticon

Thanks so much for the reminder of how important a network of friends is, even if that group of friends is "virtual." I teared up a bit when I read it, because it is so easy to get off course entirely when left to our own devices!

Doing things for others always feels so good. I know when we worked with the orphanage here in Mexico it was wonderful.
And you are so right about the community here. It is wonderful. I too wish I could meet all those that have been so inspiring.
    Have a terrific day!
