Taxes made easier with Organization

Saturday, February 23, 2013

My husband and I just finished our Federal and State taxes. We were organized this year!

I had a calendar with every doctor appointment on it. I entered the copayment in a spreadsheet after each office visit or clinic visit. I recorded all lab costs that we had to pay. There was one payment to the hospital that my deductible had not covered. My spreadsheet had the breakouts recorded with totals prior to starting tax enteries.

I found that my prescription plan had an option to print out a complete list of medicines that were ordered (90 day or 30 day at the pharmacy). I had my husband's final record for 2012 with all his meds.

I had recorded all the real estate taxes and placed the bill notices in the 2012.receipt file. I also checked that all online orders had the correct PA taxes applied. All did.

I had my online credit card statements and my bank statement handy to reference as I worked on my taxes. I now have a few papers to shred, but all necessary items are properly stored.

Yes, I filed electronically. The Federal Form was accepted within 30 minutes.

It's a great feeling, isn't it? We filed early too and already have our refunds! Love it!! :-)

well done. In Canada, we file by April 30Th, one down side is that receipts aren't required to be issued until Feb 28th, so it is hard to file earlier

That's my problem-no organization! We do get a statement from the insurance company listing everything turned in to them along with what they paid and what we paid which helps. Not sure I would know the spreadsheet stuff!
