Everyone Needs to Read This

Saturday, February 23, 2013

I don't often say that: everyone needs to read this. In this case, everyone really does, especially everyone involved with Spark People.

It was eye-opening and slightly horrifying at the same time. It involves US: our eating habits and how big food companies target US with their food products. It explains A LOT about the science behind WHY we crave the food we crave, and why it's so hard to give up soda, chips, and other junk food.

Do yourself a favor, and read it.

I think I'm going to read it again, and then I'm going to renew my promise to myself to continue to eat as healthy as I can.

How about you?

Thanks for having the courage and strength to share this information.

I've heard it called the "dumbing down of America"

I am fortunate that I loved reading as a kid so I can read and now can scratch (writing) so express myself a bit better.

Karen: Thanks for sharing. I need to get back to the article to finish reading. I did read most of it and got the general idea. I agree with the comments about choices. God gave us the right to make choices. We need to make better ones. Choices don't just apply to food and what we eat.
What about our choices of entertainment? That's another can of worms.

Wow Karen- I haven't made it all the way through the article but what I have read so far is eye opening and scary. emoticon We try to eat healthy but I know some of those junk foods make it in our house. I need to be diligent about it so my children don't have the struggles I have.

Oh I could go on a real tear, but as had been already pointed out, we have choices as adults how to feed ourselves. Children mimic what they see us doing AND what they are bombarded with on TV, in print, and on radio.

Those who have to rely on financial help are stuck to the max. Food stamps . . . they don't cover the cost of healthy food . . . at all!

We really do need to wake up and show these companies we're mad as heck and not going to tolerate it any longer! But that's not soon to happen because there is so much political money tied up in it all.

**SIGH** Consumer beware. I feel blessed to be a SP and educated!

    Thanks for sharing this.

As tragic as this appears, the basic concept of eating within the 4, or as it is now 5 food basic groups, is a choice we make as adults. We may get sucked into the big lie, but that is because we choose to ignore what we were taught from when we were little kids. Continuing down that path is a choice. There are plenty of examples of people who have not been sucked into this big lie. Our parents may not feed us as healthy as we need to be fed as kids, but as adults we make the choices for ourselves.

Ultimately we are now here at Spark People making these adjustments now as adults by our own choice. I love Spark People!!! emoticon emoticon
