I have been pretty busy with school and work the last couple of days but still managed to prepare my food so that I do not get tempted to eat random things. The day before yesterday was just as difficult as my last entry. I was craving a lot and feeling hungry. I am realizing now that my problem was more food addiction than anything else. We always tend to make comments about people that are addicted to drugs and alcohol but we tend to ignore our own. As someone that works in a treatment facility for substance abusers, I am starting to understand some of the relation to their cravings, behavior and decisions in a more personal level. I mean yea you can talk about the stages of change and process of addiction based on substance use but what about food? Withdrawal, geez ...headache, irritability, cravings, feeling tired etc depending on the individual...that's pretty common among substance users and of course depending on the substance it could be pretty extreme. I always get headache when I cut back or stop consuming sugar. I get irritable when I don't get my pastry ... I hate talking to people when I feel hungry... cravings well lets just say grocery shopping feels like going to a bar for an alcoholic hahaha..
The two days I had prior to yesterday were both I guess what you call or a make it or break it point in my diet journey. I cheated by adding an extra 50 calories on my daily intake because the craving of eating nuts was very high. What I did was I cut up some green apples and put a half table spoon of almond butter to dip it with. I ate half of the apple and used only half of the almond butter because I realized I have to start learning to self control. I managed to drink some water and go to bed feeling proud of myself.
Yesterday went so well. It almost felt like I cheated all day because I might have felt hungry maybe once just before lunch. In fact I had few calories to spare when I went to bed. I have been trying to keep up with the water. The trick that worked for me was I picked up a bottled water that contains 1.5l of mineral water. The smaller bottles didn't seem to be useful to me. so this morning when I woke up I measured myself and now I have moved from 152 to 146. I am so happy it's going well.
