I'm Engaged

Saturday, February 23, 2013

I have to start with a disclaimer. Iíve been married for 27 years so this blog is not about THAT kind of engagement.

Itís about getting engaged in life.

Ideally being overweight ought not keep us from being active, but we who have struggled with weight know that is not the case. Before I started losing weight and working out I didnít feel up to doing what I saw other, healthier people doing. I was self-conscious and not very energetic. Think bathing suits, ski clothes, spandex. The words alone could be intimidating! (We all have our own lists of these intimidating words).

What Iíve learned is that ďengagementĒ is the answer to many of lifeís ills. Depressed? Get more involved in living. Feeling sorry for our selves? Get engaged with someone who needs a hand. Overweight? Get engaged in movement. Got a diagnosis? Get engaged in the research, the medical services, and the support network we need to do our best with it.

Really, we all need to be as engaged as possible!

My I like this. I've been married almost 34 years; and I agree, not only is engagement key to happiness . . . it's easier to be engaged now I'm not "walled off" with excess weight! emoticon

Very true. If we aren't engaged into our own health, nothing will get done.

Well, you got me! I was prepared to offer congratulations on your engagement to that special someone - looks like you found him 27 years ago :) Excellent blog! Engagement is the answer to many difficulties - the challenge is mustering up the energy to get started. Once started the challenge is being consistent. As Spark People reminds us, our future selves look back and thank our past selves for getting started! It was worth it!

Good post and so true. It is amazing how much more energy I have being thinner. It affected my daily life to be unhappy and overweight. Now I am much more engaged with life.
