Woodinville is what I think of as a classic Volkswalk. You get to know the character of a town by walking through it. If you happen to be collecting walks that go by bakeries, fire stations, cemeteries, landmarks, public art, parks or bridges this one will get you closer to your goal...it has it all.
The flat, easy, pleasant walk begins on sidewalks around Woodinville. There are several murals and statues. I thought this one was cute.
The walk is titled "Sammamish River Trail" and the majority of the 10k walk is by the river on a wide paved path. Keep your eyes open for wildlife, and your ears open for fast moving bicycles on this popular trail.
The directions have you leave the trail and walk past Willows Lodge with the Barking Frog and the Herb Farm restaurant. (Which was one of the first modern restaurants in America to focus solely on preparing regional foods from local sources. )
Next stop, Redhook Brewery. The Forecasters Pub was full with a waiting list on the rainy Saturday I did this walk. Lots of people in bicycle gear refueling.
The walk has an optional a 2K extension to Columbia and Chateau Ste. Michelle Wineries.
After touring the winery grounds the walk returns to the Sammamish River Trail, back into town and to the start point.
