Too much dang snow! (13"!)

Friday, February 22, 2013

Yesterday it snowed... and snowed... and snowed... a total of 13"! Plus snow drifts over 2" in my front yard. Ugh.

So I shoveled. I had to. And now my back hurts like a fiend! The plows have yet to reach my street. Apparently the jerks made it all the way to the street over from me and gave up... and haven't been back since! What the heck! I am the last street out here -- so they literally had 2 streets left to plow in my neighborhood and they LEFT!

So I'm stuck. According to the volunteer firefighter across the street -- cars all over my neighborhood are stuck. One neighbor had to ditch his car a mile away and walk to his house... so until the plows decide to come to my street, I officially will be unable to leave my house.

And I have a big experiment to do in lab... and cells that need to be fed. So this whole 4-6" of snow prediction is crap. 13" is not 4"~! The plows in town have gotten most everything cleared, but who knows when the county will come back out to plow my street.... Grr....

One good thing from yesterday -- I submitted a job application and contacted a HR rep on LinkedIN. AND he got back to me! I have a phone interview with him next Thursday to talk about the company and my career goals... which I need to figure out, lol!

I'm going to go get ready for the day -- get my hair done, new bandage on, and try to go shovel some snow and clear my car off again. I got the snow drift off it and turned it on yesterday to melt the ice, but now there's new ice and another 3" of snow on it... and I AM going to lab today. I only have 63 days until my defense, so I don't have time to waste.

And the carpet install... it was supposed to be Saturday. My dad was going to drive to my house today, and TJ was going to drive in after work. So far I've told my dad to wait until I confirm the install and TJ hasn't responded to my texts, so I assume he's stuck in StL traffic on his way to work. I called Home Depot, but there aren't enough people at the store to answer my question. I was told to call back in a few hours.... no joke... so I have no idea if its happening... if I should tell people to come in to town to help... and if I'll get to work.

Oh... can you tell I HATE SNOW!? Ugh... I'm a grumpy cat today. And apparently an adult (or just a crazy grad student) since I can't wait to get to lab!

I always think I want to live where there is snow, then I remember what a massive headache it is.... I guess it's one of the reason so many people are moving to Texas and Florida!

Hope you dig out!

Can we take it as a good sign that you talked about shoveling yourself out, and not about any associated arm pain?

That snow was crazy. You guys got hit so hard in Mid-Mo. I heard they were forecasting for more Monday-Tuesday.

When I was younger I loved snow; now it's just a bother and a risk. Bleh! 3/4", here (NH), already.

May the force (of warm air) be with you! emoticon

I feel for you girl. We were stuck in the airport for six hours because of the snow storms. I am just glad we were able to get on the last flight into Omaha after ours was delayed and then cancelled. Our street is usually one of the last ones to get dealt with because we live in one of those suburban neighborhoods thathas nothing but homes so there is no impact to the general public if they wait to plow us. It sucks. My mom lives on the same street as one of the fire station and her neighbor works for the city streets department so her street is always plowed immediately. I think I got spoiled and expect that kind of response now.

    Awesome about the interview, congrats!!

I hear you with the snow. It's been insane here all winter... which started in October. Ridiculous. I have a little Chevette in my driveway that you can't even see because I've had nowhere else to put the snow while clearing it. That's a whole car under a snowpile. Crazy!! Good luck getting out and getting to lab, be safe!!

I am so jealous I LOVE snow, and ever since that winter with the 3 blizzards, DC hasn't gotten ANY! I feel you on going to lab... I am starting a 2-day IHC today to force myself to go in tomorrow since I keep planning to, but then don't. The GU bus doesn't run on weekends, and when I wake up on Saturday, snuggling with my cat is much more fun than walking 1.5 miles in the cold (uphill on the way home even worse!)! I finished my tunel staining yesterday and start ki67. Then I need to do some ER alpha, some qpcr from some cells, and 2 cytokine panel plates... then maybe they will release me! AAAAAHHHH

UGH!!! I feel your pain. We are currently anticipating our third weekend snowstorm arriving this Saturday..... yet another 12" ( we just had 3feet last week) So sick of snow.... need spring badly. Well hope they get to you soon. It's very frustrating to be stuck when there are things to do.=( emoticon

You should call the county and see if they know your street has been missed. If you're polite about it, they'll probably try to send someone out! I work for the City in Ottawa, and the thing I've learned is that the supervisor's aren't omnipotent! If no one calls with a problem, they don't know it is one!

We got that same snow storm here (KC area). It was a giant mess. They cleared it off just enough for me to get to work today, but there were TONS of cars still stranded on the side of the street. Be careful & stay warm!!

Ugh I don't blame you! I hate how snow can just shut down the roads...that doesn't mean we can just stay home indefinitely!! Get to plowing, road department!!! emoticon
