So my working week started today with sewing. I got the material, cut out the shirts and placed them one of top of the other to go. Next I cut out the drum bag tops and did the same. Then started sewing.....realized I finally needed glasses to thread the needle....so many thread color changes and each time it was a battle to see the tiny opening so had to rush out and buy a pair of cheapies over the counter No 1's if that means anything to you.
This picture was taken at the end of the week which accounts for my tired expression.
I am going to sleep so well tonight.
Hmm I think I may cut my hair. I always aid if my hair ends up in a ponytail only....I will cut it. I cannot stand my hair in my face while doing any kind of work. I showed my husband a picture of what I'd like to do with my hair and his grunt was...why mess with it? Sigh what is it with men and long hair?
Before I could start with Daniels drumming shirts, I had to whip up a hair straightening iron bag. Double sided (don't ask me why....I guess because Cole knows I can.) So the girl friends bag is completed and on its way.
Then I could officially begin with no interruptions, the drumming shirts. LOL Not so! My sewing week was constantly interrupted with all kinds of other things including answering hubbies company phone because their regular lady is in hospital...aargh why now? I started getting that panicky feeling that I wasn't going to get everything done before Friday 11.45 when the garments were being fetched to go to Cape Town.
So these are the shirts we will call Drumming Shirts because thats what their function is I guess.
This one is plain but has brocade around the neckline.
There always has to be a "Bob Marley" shirt.
One brightly colored shirt.
This year we have introduced extras like 2 pockets on the front of the shirts and then a secret pocket on the inside of the chest for cell phones. Cell phone theft is huge in SA and its impossible to watch your phone and drum at the same time. Since I put a secret cell phone pocket in my sons personal shirts....no more cell phone theft.
The drum covers are not whole bags, just something to cover the skin when the folks run from gig area to vehicles in the rain and don't want to get the skins wet or to keep the intense heat off the skin too. They seem so small that they should have been a piece of cake to make...but oh my word they were not. Due to my own error though because I got tired.
I completed the tops and when it came to stitching on the Indigi Drums (stands for indigenous drums) I stitched through everything forgetting to leave the space for the elastic un-stitched. That meant ages and ages of careful unpicking and redoing. Ugh I was mad at myself. I finally got everything done at 10pm last night.
What we did first thing this morning, was take the prototypes and hang them in a local music store while the owner/buyer was in the stock room. We had the kind aiding and abetting form the salesman who is also a drummer. We wanted to see his candid expression when he saw them for the first time, not expecting them at all. We were pleasantly surprised. He saw them, questioned the sales man as to where they came from, inspected them closely and then gave us an order of 3 of each for the end of March. Woopie Do! Our first sale before they even got to Cape Town. This is exciting. We got home at 10.30am and the pick up was at 11.45am so we made it by the skin of our teeth.
Later I want to go out and buy a few goodies for put into a gift bag for Axel.....but for now....I am alone at home and there is no humming of my sewing machine, no sounds of family inspecting the shirts and just chatting, no phones ringing (this part is usual for Friday afternoons) and its wonderful. All I am listening to is the sound of silence......its wonderful.
Tomorrow is ministry day for me and watchtower prep and Sunday is meeting and ministry before Monday kicks off with my next project. Till then I'd better clean up my sewing corner.
I've eaten right, but had no exercise this week, so I will have to fit some in this weekend. Maybe a lovely lonnnnng walk on the beach with my hubby and the dogs.
Next week I have little sewing, but I do have to sort out the young mans finances. He gets paid on the 25th and that may take a while....I still have to phone the credit bureau and see what debts he has outstanding....silly twit doesn't know who he owes money to, just that he does???? I also have to reroute all his accounts to my box address.
Well work is work and getting paid is grand. So my side is done for now and I rub my hands together gleefully waiting for payment.
I had also better pay my husband some attention. He seems to have found a new best friend.
Bronson as a one year old. Feels like we got him just the other day.
