The shape of things to come

Well, not quite, because it looks a bit shapeless hanging up there. But yesterday I went shopping for some work clothes and bought the first dress I have owned in 20 years.

So, me in a changing cubicle. I took in with me two skirts in two sizes and two dresses, one size each. Tried on the first dress and it was enormous so asked for a smaller size which fitted. Examined the dress at some length but the style of it didn't really flatter my rather eccentric shape. Tried on the next dress and . . . wow.

'Sale, Miss Brahms.'

If you wish to be introduced to Miss Brahms, and more importantly the incomparable Mrs Slocombe (whose shape is very similar to my own, see here

And there we have it. Or rather I have it. A nice printed black dress, girly enough but not too girly. Good for wearing to work and out to posh if I go somewhere posh. I tried on a size smaller but it was a bit too clingy and if you bulge rather than curving, you don't do clingy. The photo doesn't really do it justice but this is what it looks like on someone thin and young:

The skirts? Don't ask. You don't need to because I'll tell you. I could just about have worn one two sizes bigger than the dress I bought. Just about.

Of course I didn't buy one. A girl has her pride.

And I've got a snazzy new frock.

PS this is the cat, lying on me while I lie on the sofa typing this blog. There's no point to his presence, just he was there so I took a photo.

A lovely dress, and I am sure you look SMASHING in it! (If only you could hear my awful fake British accent when i say that aloud!) The dress is just right for nearly everywhere, which is what I try to put in my closet. (I have one that has gone to 3 weddings and many other places) Thanks for sharing!

Oh how cool!! I bought a dress the other day too, on a clearance sale. First dress I bought in about 10 years, since I don't work in the same type of office setting I used to when I wore dresses and skirts. Now I wear jeans all the time. And the ones I did have I got rid of a couple of years ago when first lost about 40 lbs and they were way too big. I lost more than that, then gained a little back but still have maintained the 40 lb weight loss so they wouldn't have fit anyway. So now we both have 1 dress in our wardrobe LOL!

Congratulations on the dress. And I understand completely about the cat. To them, we are usually just a piece of furniture to be walked or laid upon - until they want something. Then we are servants or staff and how dare we expect them to wait even one second before tending to their demands!!

Cat looks either blissful or unimpressed, I can't tell which. But both are typical cat states of mind.

Lovely dress!

Gee, I don't know, maybe it's just me, but that cat looks none too thrilled at having his picture taken with a flash! I think he would much rather have you pet him. Love the dress. (I enjoyed watching "Are You Being Served" again.

Your cat had a point - he/she just didn't share it with you - lol

Totally love Are You Being Served - have watched it on my local PBS for years!

Congrats on buying a dress!! I too have only worn a dress once (or twice - depending on the ocassion like a wedding where pants are kinda frowned on) in many many many years (I'm a jeans and TShirt (or sweatshirt) kinda gal) and since I'm retired I really don't have the need for one.

Love the cat!! I have a cat and they are wonderful! Congratulations on getting the dress!! I wear a skirt to church as I can't find a dress that is long enough. I like mine longer than the ones they are making these days. I have all different size skirts. Don't let the size scare. Different brand names are not the same size!! I have found that with my jeans, too. Anyway, good job on the new dress. I would love to see a picture of you in it!! emoticon
Have a nice day!! Angie emoticon

Great look on the cat. Kind of a " hi there, I'm a cat" look.

Congratulatins on your dress. Sometimes women look way better in dresses than pants which kind of, ya know, point out the actual size of the back side, if you get my meaning, whereas a dress floats right back over it, concealing better.

I only wear mine in the summer because I really
hate hose.

I've always loved dresses, even when I couldn't/wouldn't wear one. So glad you've joined the club! And that sure is one contented cat you've got there. He looks so sweet and innocent, at least in that comfy spot.

That dress is lovely - I didn't know Monsoon did bigger sizes (I notice they go up to a 22 in that dress) so I'll have to check it out. Evans is just so.... ick!

We get Are You Being Served here on a public TV station.
Like it!

Sizes vary don't they?
That drives me half nutty, that companies
vary sizes. Just. Not. Right.
Not that I went out and bought any clothes.

Nice dress!
Lovely cat, that matches the dress.
That is where he fits in.
