The shape of things to come

Well, not quite, because it looks a bit shapeless hanging up there. But yesterday I went shopping for some work clothes and bought the first dress I have owned in 20 years.

So, me in a changing cubicle. I took in with me two skirts in two sizes and two dresses, one size each. Tried on the first dress and it was enormous so asked for a smaller size which fitted. Examined the dress at some length but the style of it didn't really flatter my rather eccentric shape. Tried on the next dress and . . . wow.

'Sale, Miss Brahms.'

If you wish to be introduced to Miss Brahms, and more importantly the incomparable Mrs Slocombe (whose shape is very similar to my own, see here www.youtube.com/w

And there we have it. Or rather I have it. A nice printed black dress, girly enough but not too girly. Good for wearing to work and out to posh if I go somewhere posh. I tried on a size smaller but it was a bit too clingy and if you bulge rather than curving, you don't do clingy. The photo doesn't really do it justice but this is what it looks like on someone thin and young:

The skirts? Don't ask. You don't need to because I'll tell you. I could just about have worn one two sizes bigger than the dress I bought. Just about.

Of course I didn't buy one. A girl has her pride.

And I've got a snazzy new frock.

PS this is the cat, lying on me while I lie on the sofa typing this blog. There's no point to his presence, just he was there so I took a photo.
