Life can be tough sometimes and emotions can prod us to eat too much and eat the wrong things. The task is to figure out to persevere in spite of our circumstances. That's not always easy.
Anytime I've had a relative or friend in the hospital and I've been "off my game" because of that, I've found it easy to eat poorly.
I trust that Tina is feeling better and that both of you are getting back into the swing of things. Sometimes that can take some time but the important thing is to keeping working at it.
OK, it's tough talk time - so at 400+ pounds you are CERTAINLY putting excess wear and tear on your joints and organs. I suspect you are aware of that, particularly the joints. I know anytime I've been anywhere near (or above!) 300 pounds, my knees, ankles and back have ached. Personally, I've felt so much better lately having dropped about 42 pounds. My knees felt terrible when I was 290. Now they feel pretty good!
I'm guessing that your MAINTENANCE calories are somewhere in the neighborhood of 4000 calories per day - that's the number of calories needed just to stay at your current weight. This is, of course, just a guess based on your weight and my guess as to your age and height.
If you ate at 3000 calories per day - a 1000 calorie deficit - you could likely lose 2 pounds per week. My guess is that you could eat at a 1500 calorie deficit per day - about 2500 calories total each day to start - and lose about 3 pounds per week. 2500 calories is quite a good number of calories per day - that's not too much under my maintenance calorie value - and I would think a reasonable target. Just a thought.
At 3#/week for a year, you would be down roughly 150 pounds in a year - that'd be pretty great, huh? Even if it was "only" 100 pounds down in a year, I'm SURE that would make a huge difference.
Anyhow, I hope this is received as it is intended - as an encouragement to you to stay strong and work toward making some new good habits related to foot and tracking. That's the KEY - food control.
Glad to see you are both feeling better. Yes, you are in my prayers. God did give us these bodies so may He bless your efforts to get yours in the best shape possible.
My husband was in the hospital a few weeks ago, and it isn't easy to see our loved ones hurt. I held it together while he was in the hospital, but lost it after he got home. My scale gave me a reality check also. We can't let life's troubles become an excuse to eat. That is what got us to gain weight in the first place.
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, For I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
I'm glad to see you back with it again as far as making a vlog for us to find out how you're doing. I know that you can do it and that will help your over-all feeling good about yourself. Little by little and a day at a time. I love seeing your wonderful smile. You really do light up when you do!!
As you mentioned part of the "Gain" is from weighing at the end of the day. And spending a few days with Tina in the Hospital means that you could be retaining water. Whatever the reason, it is Less Important than the fact that you are Committed to Yourself and Your Lifestyle Change. This is merely a Bump in the road.
