Has it really been a month?!

Thursday, February 21, 2013

Well, I survived this birthday. One of the hardest I've had. My mom is in the hospital recovering from spinal stenosis surgery. She's doing ok, but they're worried about her heartbeat. I can't be there due to work and this lovely winter weather we've been having. I've talked to her on the phone every day and she sounds good. I even opened my birthday presents while on the phone with her.

I am now older than my brother. That is the strangest thing. He was 2 1/2 years older than me and I am officially older than he was when he died.

Two of the girls I work with sent me flowers. That was the sweetest thing and really helped me get through the day with a smile. That and my two year old's. I made them a birthday treat - rice krispie treats and finger jello - and as soon as I passed it out one of the girls sang Happy Birthday to me.

Working hard to find my motivation again. I'm really letting stress get to me and know I need to take care of that.

Take care of yourself and be kind to yourself while you find your motivation again. If you've fallen part way off the wagon, start finding little ways you can do better without going overboard. It's much easier to leave a few bites left on a plate or walking 100 extra steps than it is to dive right back into where you were. Ease yourself back into the journey. Even tiny steps forward are better than falling backwards.

As for your mom, maybe it will help you and her feel better if you tap into your childhood days and send her a handmade get well card. It'll be a great surprise for her to get and you may feel good knowing she can hold something you held just a few days earlier.

A few years ago I was very sick in the hospital, my mom lives 1000 miles away and is on a fixed income so she couldn't afford to visit. She called to check on me every day, whether I felt like chatting or not. I really appreciated that a lot.
Have a good birthday and hug those little ones!
