Turning Lemons into Lemonade

Thursday, February 21, 2013

I haven't blogged in a while because I've been SUPER busy with my Operation Sharon Freedom plan! The good news is that things are going VERY well in that department and I feel so super positive about my future for the first time in a long time! There is light at the end of the tunnel!

The bad news is that my IT band is definitely giving my problems. I just pored through my old blogs to see how long it took the chiro to fix it last time. Seems like it was about 2 weeks or so.

This time, I went to see him much earlier. Also, it's the other side, which is good (not a chronic issue). In retrospect, it kind of makes sense that my IT band would be giving me grief - during the marathon, my left hip got SUPER tight very early on. I'm just not sure why - not a peep from them all through my training, 2,065 miles of it!

When I saw Dr. N last Friday, it hurt for him to even touch my hip area. He used his Graston tool of torture on the first day, fortunately, and I felt almost immediately better. Under his instructions, I've been running every day, using the stretchy band to work out my glutes, and of course, rolling and icing. I saw him again on Monday, and my improvement seems to have stagnated since then. Tuesday and Wednesday the runs weren't pain free - not bad, but a definitely dull ache. Today was bad - at 4.5 miles, (which had been pain totally pain free), I got a terrible stabbing pain in my knee, bad enough that I had to stop and stretch before continuing.

Fortunately, I am seeing him again tomorrow, so I hope we can lick this thing. I have a half marathon in 2 weeks and I'd really love to run it. I'll see what he says.

The good news is that I would ordinarily let an injury COMPLETELY freak me out, but not this time. I am confident that Dr. N will fix me (he did last time) and in the whole scheme of things, a month of low mileage after a marathon is not a big deal. I am using the down time to work on my Get Out of Corporate America plan and to spend time with Larry and friends doing fun things. Life has actually been really enjoyable lately! Life as a "normal" person!

You are always amazing and will triump. Life is just one big and LONG lesson in humility. We learn it in stages but in the end its all that matters.

Make some lemonade, Sharon! lol! I was just thinking about you.

Sorry to read about your IT band woes. I hope you can work out the kinks soon. Are you running the 13.1 Miami Beach?

Woo Hoo to your almost retirement! Well at least to your 9 to .....? job. You are a lady in motion who will remain in motion, but at least then you will be doing things you want to do.

I am glad that you are optimistic and hopefully your doctor will work his magic once again. Great news about your freedom plan progressing rather smoothly, here's to your upcoming emancipation from Corporate America!

I hope your IT issues are resolved quickly. I am really glad to hear that you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. That has got to feel great and the fact that you are enjoying time goofing around with friends says that you are more relaxed.

Hahahaha... life as a "normal" person- right! Did you say,

I'm so proud of you for not letting this thing freak you out! That's HUGE---- and definitely an awesome way to feel and the way you should feel, because you are being pro-active and taking care of the issue and letting the rest go- as best as you can. VERY NICE :-)

I am going to use this blog as motivation to focus that someday.... not in the too far away future, I will feel similar about life as a "normal" person- in the meantime, I'll try my best to just take it day by day.

LOVE YA!

Sharon! I'm so proud of you! I hope it heals quickly, but you've certainly got the right attitude. And hooray for Operation Sharon Freedom, lol. I know it's so close you can taste it! Good luck getting through this last little bit of nonsense!!
