She's braver than I am...

Thursday, February 21, 2013

It is almost the end of February and I think I ran outside twice so far this year. It has been so cold and I feel like such a wimp because my granddaughter is doing the plunge this year. It is a fundraiser for the special olympics where they cut a hole in the ice on a lake and people "take the plunge". She is 11 and asked me to jump with her; I declined and told her I am too wimpy to go jump in the lake before the ice has melted.

I love that she asked, but I don't know that I'd be able to say "Yes" to her either. Brrrr.

I'm positive I couldn't. I can hardly handle the heated pool when temps in the 20s wick off the heat and bring the temperature down to 80. But I don't feel bad about not being able to be a polar bear. Leave me warm and cozy.

I also understand about not likig to walk outdoors when it is so cold. You have to get creative in the winter!! Lots of things to try, I liked the Zumba DVd the best. And I figure I'll use it indoors for the opposite--The heat in Florida in July, August and September if I don't get a walk in before the sun comes up.

I had a co-worker do the polar plunge for the first time this year. She said she is addicted and can't wait for next year. I too don't know if I could do it. I don't like being cold.. and that might be too much for me to handle. I also have never heard of anything negative happening to anyone while doing the plunge. I think a big part of why, is they cover you right away and you go into a warming house to get dry and stay warm.

It is a very popular fundraiser and fully staffed with medical and divers. Haven't heard of any negative incidents, unlike some marathon races.

There's nothing wrong with avoiding ice cold water in the Winter. It's great that she wanted you to join her though.

I don't know if you were wimpy or just being smart. We would need to have a doctor's report in on that.

You would think they would have some other form of fund raising activity that woud be a little less controversial to raise money.

Just my thoughts on this subject.
