A cold, but productive day

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

My appointment canceled on me this afternoon, but I had already made arrangements with my dad to borrow his truck, and with my friend, Peter, to trim his cat's claws, so I went out anyway. It just meant I had a little more time at the gym than expected, plus I had time to go to the grocery store and the discount store. I stocked up on dog treats, so Cooper will be pleased. It was bitter cold today with a stiff breeze (windchill close to 0 degrees), so I cut Cooper's walks short. He didn't seem to mind the reduction. I think it was too cold for him too. He kept getting ice built up between his toe pads, so I would have to pick him up and warm his little paws up.

At the gym today I ran 3.5 miles on the treadmill, got off, hopped on the bike for 5.5 miles, then got back on the treadmill for another 2.1 miles, before using just a couple of ST machines. It felt good to work hard, but I know I need to get refocused on my ST. For some reason I don't find it as satisfying as the intense cardio. It feels good when I can increase weight, but I find it more tedious than cardio. I think it has to do with instant gratification... I can watch the time tick by on the timer on the treadmill, bike or elliptical and aim for a minute or two longer in each session, but with the weights I have to work for a week or two before increasing weight.

I had chili for dinner. lol I will probably have chili for the rest of the week, because I made so much of it yesterday. I was actually toward the upper end of my calorie limit today, because I had three servings of chili for dinner! It was so nice to have a quick, hot meal after coming in from walking the dog. I did not have my protein shake after the gym today, as I went right out to do my shopping from the gym. In fact, I managed to drop my dad off on campus, drive to the next town and trim my friend's cat's claws, put in a good workout and hit two stores and do some serious shopping between 1pm and 5pm. Not a bad afternoon's work.

It is supposed to be even colder tomorrow, so I am thinking that Cooper and I will take it easy. I bought some hair dye today, so I might take there of that chore tomorrow afternoon. I had thought to go to the gym, but when it is this cold, I don't want to go out unless I have to, and I bought a rower for just this sort of circumstance. Good job, Chandra! Now I am rambling...

Have a good night everyone!

You need the cold air to cool down! Be careful if you step out too quickly, you may create a mass melting and the flood will upset the apple cart.

I am having trouble getting out of the blocks! Our fitness center is closed today because of bad weather. I guess I'll take a page out of your book and do a home workout!
