March is almost here, hopefully bringing the warmer temperatures so many of us are longing for - yippee!!! I want to put on my shoes and go outside and walk, without having to pile on a coat, gloves, hat . . . only to have to start the on again, off again pattern to coincide with my hot flashes.
We now made our plans for vacation, at least as much as we are going to "plan" vacation this year. We decided this is going to be a stress free trip.
We’ve purchased airline tickets for vacation in May. We’re flying to Albuquerque where my sister will pick us up and head out for ten days of sun and fun! After a lot of conversations with my sister, we decided that camping in our little tents may not be the best option this year. Tommy will be with us and we don’t want him to end up miserable and uncomfortable. He feels pretty good most days, but occasionally gets really tired and needs to lay down and take a nap. Those who have camped in the desert know how hot a tent is in the afternoon sun.
So we did a little research and have found a company in Albuquerque that rents travel trailers. They have some great small trailers that my sister’s SUV will pull, so she’s going to look at them next week. We’re probably going to rent one and leave the tents at home this year. This will be great because Tommy can nap during the day if needed.
In keeping with our "stress free" plans, we’re not even sure exactly where we’re going yet. We plan to go wherever the road takes us. No itinerary, no place we have to be at a certain time, just a relaxed vacation to sightsee and hike during the day, then sit beside a campfire or look at the stars at night. If you’ve never done it, sitting in a remote area of the desert at night, without the light pollution of nearby cities, is a star gazing experience that by itself is worth the trip.
Also, I’ve now gone one entire week without any soft drink. Tommy and I went to the store yesterday and he decided to stop and grab a sandwich. I ordered a salad and a drink and then was so excited to see diet Dr. Pepper among the drinks to choose from. I almost stuck my cup under the tap before I remembered I couldn’t have any soft drinks (gave them up for lent). I stopped and looked at it for a few seconds wondering if just once would really hurt. I mean, who would know? Yes, it would be bad because I would know. I turned and filled my cup with unsweetened tea and asked for a couple Splenda packs. At that moment, I really wanted that Dr. Pepper, but afterwards I was glad I didn’t give in to the temptation.
Now it’s time for me to get up and go take a walk to burn some calories.
Hope you’re all having a great week my friends! Spring will soon be here!
