Week 4 of Women's Healthy Living Class
Wednesday, February 20, 2013
Wow, I can't believe that after tonight my women's healthy living class will be half over. Where does time go?!?! It's been a great class. I have met a lot of new women (in a church of 1200, it can be hard to meet new women if you don't purposely go out to do so! It's easy to just "hang" with the same people, reaching out takes a little more work- but so worth it!)
Last week I brought in several examples of foods that I use at home (I had two bags of the reusable grocery bags full of boxes/bags of items that I had used up, been saving them for a while for this purpose). That was a lot of fun, a lot of the women had either never heard of the items or didn't know what part of the grocery store to buy them in. We also talked about how to read a food label (so important, many people forget to look at the amount of "servings" in a package and may mistake it for single serving when it may actually be two-three servings!)
Tonight's topics are exercise, water, and the importance of sleep/rest. I told all of the women to wear comfy clothes (or workout clothes) tonight since we will be going through a few exercises. I have a home workout routine for them that they can do anywhere, either with just their body weight or they can add dumbbells. I am going to watch them women do the moves after I show them how to make sure that everyone is doing them correctly so that they don't hurt themselves when they do them at home! It should be a lot of fun. I think that I will also bring the music from my Turbo class that I taught this past summer and we will do the warm up and cool down from that. (Won't be able to do the whole workout due to not having enough space in our room- there are 30 women! It's a bit crowded so I don't want someone to accidentally kick or punch someone, lol!) For the water and sleep part, I used a lot of information for Don Colbert's book "Seven Pillars of Health." Our book that we are using for class is Joyce Meyer's "Look Great, Feel Great," but I like to add a little "extra" to the classes. Joyce's book is amazing, though! I have read through it at least three times now and really enjoy it!
