I have an English cocker spaniel named Gemma. She turns 10 next month. Gemma is actually my son's dog, except he left home a year ago - I've never really been a very doggie person - or so I thought until she had suspected cancer six months ago, and then I realised how much of a family member she is.
This morning she didn't eat her breakfast - the first time in 10 years. She is very very food oriented, so this is a big signal. Then I saw that she had been very sick both in the house and outside. She wandered around whining gently and not being able to get comfortable.
I rang the vet and they told me to bring her in. They think she has swallowed something bad and are doing an ultrasound this morning.
I've come home to an empty quiet house... no bouncing Gemma at the front door, no licks to say hello, no shared morning tea.
I am feeling very very sad and need a hug.
