Making Tomorrow Today

My mom & I recently went to a barrel race with some friends that opened up my mind to all kinds of possibilities! Now I had surgery on my hand & elbow 3 weeks ago so I'm not allowed to play with our horses for another couple weeks but it got me thinking. If we were to pick up barrel racing losing weight would make it easier on our horses & we'd have better times.
So, goal #1- lose 10 lb by May 1st. To me this sounds slow but I learned last fall that if I aim too high I tend to sabotage myself. This way there's lots of room for error & I'll still succeed. Who knows, I could lose twice that!
Goal #2- run entire 5k. No walking. My goal last year was to do a half-marathon. I did not one, but two! I walk/jogged both & am very proud to have DONE them! I got off track the end of the year with a career rebound & health issues but I'm ready to get back on track with a vengeance! Firefly run or Color Me Rad anyone?
Goal #3- Complete program for Pharmacy Technician. My local JC is partnering with a vocational school & is offering the program. I've wanted to transition into the field since my work with the vet hospital. So looking forward to it! Need to get all my ducks in a row... make a few phone calls to get the ball rolling...
Goal #4- Fulfill my promise to Kelly & live life to the fullest! When I moved back home I made a promise to a good friend of mine that I wouldn't let myself turn back into the shy wallflower I was when I met her. Needless to say it was all too easy to do just that working & living with my parents. Whether I join a dating site, join a bowling league, take a fitness class, or get a second job to meet people is still up in the air...
Goal #5- realize I can't go back. Remember the friends I mentioned at the beginning? My family rode & competed with them 15 years ago. I grew up with their daughter & we were the greatest of friends. I also haven't talked to her much in the last 10 years. Well, I've tried to remedy that fact & came to the realization that all we had in common then doesn't apply now. Our life experiences have fundamentally changed who we are as people & finding a middle ground is almost impossible. I'm having the same trouble with a friend I have managed to keep in touch with all these years. We've all just changed.
So, having all these goals in mind the greatest problem for me is starting. I'm very good at "I'll start tomorrow." Well, I'm going to make tomorrow today. After work I can get on the treadmill since it's raining. I can look into social activities & call to find out what's required to join. I can call the school & find out if they'll accept my state grant I earned in high school. I can log the gorgeous salad I had for lunch & make a meal plan that's healthier. I can do all this today & change my approach to NOW not someday. I challenged my mom to come up with her own list of goals. I hope she picks up the gauntlet... I need my accountability buddy. Even if I make small steps towards my goals, thats a few steps closer than I was. Some of my goals might not be completed this year or next year but will always be a work in progress. Life is a journey, an adventure. I just need to always remember to start TODAY.

    Wow, you have expressed yourself beautifully!
We are working toward said goals.
1. eating healthy @ work.
2. moving a little daily.
3. moving MORE on alternate days.
4. starting to mess w/ the horses.

Keep pushing. You can do it!

  Great plans. It is good not to set unrealistic expectations for you will not sabatage yourself. Then you can always be extra motivated when you do better than the goals you set up.
I love your attitude "today not tomorrow"
You sound determined and like a real winner to me. Keep going. Push hard. Stay committed.
