Recently I've allowed myself to indulge a bit. I went for a massage and a health treatment that I really needed. They were both a bit expensive, and they were both time consuming, but after doing them, I felt so much better and noticed I had so much more to give to my husband and daughter.
I just listened to an Inside Out Weight Loss podcast that deals with this same issue. In it Renee Stephens says that when you put yourself first, you have much more to give to others.
It makes a lot of sense. For the past few days, I've been very conscious about taking good care of myself. I've eaten well, gotten enough rest, and I went for some personal luxury. It's amazing how much calmer, centered, and capable I feel after just a few days.
The truth is that when we care for ourselves, it's really not selfish at all. Rather, it makes us so much better for those around us.
