Daddy Update

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Okay, it's Tuesday and I finally have full computer/internet access once again. Here's the latest:

My dad's surgery lasted the full four hours (doctors said, due to his size, expect a 2-4 hour surgery). The tumor was larger than thought. That said, they did not have the buffer they expected between the tumor and a tube (I don't remember what my mom called it) that connects to his kidney. So the tube and the kidney it connected to both had to go.

It took a little longer for Dad to come out of anesthesia and they had him pretty much sedated all weekend. He would wake up for a sentence or two and drift back out.

He's been in a lot of pain. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest, his pain was a 9 on Saturday and 8 on Sunday. Yesterday, Monday, he was able to get up and use the restroom. Ice chips are still the only thing he is allowed to take orally. Poor guy. All he wanted after surgery was a pastrami sandwich from Togo's. That won't be happening for awhile.

In a couple weeks' time, we will find out if he needs to go through radiation.

So that's the update. Needless to say, I'm a little spacy/ragged/snappy right now, still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing and deal with the fact that I can't be there with him. This weekend was rough.

Until next time,

Have a great week, my Lovelies...

Oh, Dad stuff is the WORST (life long daddy's girl here, with a dad suffering with an aggressive form of MS). I hope your dad heals quickly and well. Keep your head up.

It's rough when it's your Daddy. I know. I also know that one of the best things you can do right now is to take care of you. Get your sleep. Get your rest. Drink your water. Eat right. Read some, play some, and pray some a little bit every day.

Thanks for the update. I am so glad that he came through the surgery successfully and was even able to get up and walk yesterday. I am sure it is very rough for him to be unable to eat. Poor guy! Take care of yourself! I wish there was something that I could do to help....hopefully the fact that so many of your Spark friends care will help just a little. emoticon

Thankful that the surgery is over, and sad, too, that there might be more travail ahead, but he's so blessed to have you in his corner! Best for the future.

At least the first part of the ordeal is done now. Not knowing what is going on inside is a big worry. It's better to deal with the truth, even if it is worse than expected, than to go through all that not knowing.
I hope the pain eases quickly and he can start recovering from this. My thoughts are with you and your family. I've been through medical emergencies with my Dad, so I know it is difficult. Please take care.

Thanks for the update. So sorry to hear the difficult time he's had but thankful he made it thru the surgery. That he was able to be up yesterday sounds like progress and I pray he continues to improve. Take care of yourself - you've been thru a lot as well. emoticon

First, I'm glad that he made it through surgery - that's one major hurdle out of the way. Second, I'm sorry to hear that his recovery is slow. Hopefully with some time under his belt and the love of his family around him, he'll be moving in the right direction in no time! In the meantime, remember to take care of yourself as well!
