This week, we tried the following new foods:
- Swiss chard
- Dandelion greens
OK. Anyone that's had a yard and a husband knows how much men HATE dandelions. As much as you try, they always come back! So I was a little hesitant to introduce eating them to my husband! Original the recipe I chose called for mustard greens, which were not available, so I was really unsure how they would work out! Well tonight we had barley with winter greens pesto using the chard and greens and it was pretty amazing! I didn't tell my husband about the dandelion element until after dinner though haha.
The other experiment, turnips, was not as successful. Knowing their reputation for bitterness I roasted them with carrots, hoping that the carrots' sweetness would balance them out. I ate it, but didn't really enjoy it. They almost had a horseradishy taste. Richie just ate the carrots and left the turnips there. Oh well - you can't love everything!
