First Twenty Mile Run...

Monday, February 18, 2013

And it cost me 1 Cliff Bar, 2 GU Energy Gels, 20 oz.Powerade Zero, the beginnings of 4 toe blisters, and 4 hours. That's relatively inexpensive for an afternoon's recreation. Other than the blisters, I feel pretty OK, but I'm going to give them a few days off so they don't go crazy on me.

The Strava website where I uploaded from my Garmin said I burned 3,333 calories. The above fuel amounted to 440 calories in addition to the 1800 or so that I normally get from my meals. I think this day puts me back on track after going a little overboard on Valentine's day and my birthday followed by a weekend of entertaining and being entertained.

Wow, 20 miles in 4 hours is a great time. Good job. You have already learned to take in a lot of food during the long runs. One of the mistakes I made was not refueling enough during those long runs. In my case, I just wasn't getting any hunger signals, and I just didn't eat enough. I read somewhere that it is the 2nd biggest mistake, not taking in enough fuel for a marathon. Second to the famous "started too fast" number one mistake.
Keep up the good work. When can we start calling you a Geezer too? You can hold out until you turn 62, but that's the max allowable age!

    That's fantastic!

I can't do GU, my stomach won't tolerate it. I eat pretzels, banana...used to cut up a Luna bar into pieces and stuff it into a ziplock. Hard candies...

20 miles! Right now, I can only imagine. That's longer than the total miles I'm putting into three runs a week right now.
