This was my first time cooking with pesto. I must say that after I bought it, I was shocked by the amount of calories. I learned though, that with pesto a little bit goes a long way.

I found that I did need to make a couple of minor changes to save calories!
- I omitted the olive oil. Instead I cooked the sausage using cooking spray.
- Instead of 4 servings, I did 5. That was enough.
- I skipped the parmesan cheese. (It was still tasty).

Also, I couldn't find ORECCHIETTE, so I used bowties. They were perfect for grabbing a hold of that yummy pesto. I used Johnsonville Chicken Sausage with Chipotle Monterey Jack Cheese because I happened to have it on hand.

Even with the changes...this was very yummy and super easy. I will definitely make it again!

I love pesto and this looks like a great recipe! As Tina said, the combination sounds really interesting.
I just checked the nutrition information on my pesto jar after reading your blog!

Thanks for letting me know! I'll make sure to be more careful with its use from now on!

Looks great! I've always been a little intimidated by pesto. Not really sure why. May have to give this a try!

I may have to try this recipe for the next round of recipes to try. Never cooked with pesto before, but would like to.

I love pesto! It is one of my favorite things to cook with... so much so that I buy a giant jar of it at Costco and freeze it in an ice cube tray. And like you said, a little goes a very long way. It is also easy to make, although I only do that in the summer when basil is good. When you make it yourself you can control the oil content a bit more.

I also have made this recipe and I really like how flexible it is, as you discovered. You can swap in all kinds of things, use whatever veggies are good (asparagus is good in this!), and different pasta shapes. Great for cleaning out the fridge!
