Excuse my French....as my Mom used to say. Ever find yourself using expressions that your Mom used? I do it all the time. But I like it....makes me remember her in a very special way from time to time, not that a day goes by that I don't think of her, and she's been gone for 23 years now. Hard to believe...
Friday after lunch with hubby (grilled chicken salad at our favorite Mexican place, and I had two chips with salsa--JUST TWO!) I went shopping. Why do I do that? I have clothes hanging in my closet that still have the tags on them and certainly don't need anymore. But I do love to shop for new stuff to wear, and I treat myself way too much. But then I also figure if shopping keeps me from eating, and if it motivates me to keep the weight off so the clothes still fit....it's money well spent!
Kohl's is one of my favorite places to shop. It's where I found the sweater/dress I wore in this picture, which I LOVE! (The sweater AND the picture!)
Lauren Conrad is a young designer that Kohl's features. Jennifer Lopez and Vera Wang also have designs there, but I really like Lauren's. They are frilly and lacy and for some reason that is the kind of thing I like. I found a pair of floral jeans, then searched throughout the store for a top to match. There was blues, greens and a little yellow in the floral design of the jeans, and then I found this top, which matched perfectly!
So I took them back to the dressing room to try on. I had picked up a size 10 in the jeans. I saw that they were "skinny" jeans, and sometimes those are too small. Sure enough...Lauren's size 10 jeans, labeled "Pencil" here
would NOT zip up.
I loved the top however, and how the two items went together and decided it would be a beautiful Spring outfit to wear, perhaps on Easter, so grabbed the jeans in a size 12 on my way out. That was a little degrading....a size 12! Thus the title of my blog! But I still love the outfit, and even those size 12's--when I tried them on at home--SKIN TIGHT! So there will be no weight gain in my future....if I want them to fit!
Yesterday was Grandson Duncan's 7th birthday, so the family celebrated with dinner at Duncan's restaurant of choice, a pizza buffet restaurant. This buffet is HUGE and everything on it is very TASTY! I used to go there all the time, but quit when I started my journey to get healthy. Buffets and I are NOT friends. But I made a plan before I went....lots of salad and fruit, just a little pasta, (I LOVE their pasta sauce), and NO dessert. I stuck with my plan pretty much, although I did grab ONE garlic roll when I got my salad with low-fat ranch dressing. I think it helps to have a plan before you go. I did notice a lot of overweight people there. Sometimes if an overweight person is sitting at a table nearby, it gives me motivation NOT to eat. How sad is that? Also, the place was packed last night, and I could easily squeeze between tables and that felt GOOD. Those NSV's keep popping up!
I wore a new outfit yesterday, that I got a while back at Dress Barn. These jeans are size 10's, they too are skin tight, but I love them! I looked and looked for a plaid blouse to match. I could find nothing in that rust color, or even with a rust color in it. Finally I found this blouse at Maurice's, and it sorta matches.
But when I saw the picture I had hubby take, I didn't like how you could SEE the plaid through the fairly thin sweater material. So while out shopping yesterday and wearing the outfit (so I could check to make sure it matched), I found this scarf, which I LOVE. I am substitute teaching Wednesday, and I'm going to wear it again!
And here's a few pictures from our little birthday party yesterday. Duncan's party with his friends is NEXT Sunday at the bowling alley (they were all full with parties this weekend), and we got him a new Avenger's Bowling Ball for his birthday.
I had a great time yesterday...shopping...wearing pretty clothes...and eating RIGHT at Duncan's birthday party! I like to think back on his birthdays over the years. At his fourth birthday party, which was a family dinner at his house, I had just started my journey to get healthy. I ate a sensible meal and no birthday cake. I haven't had any of his birthday cake in the three years since then either. Oh I've had a piece of two of cake during those years, but for Duncan's birthday I always plan NOT to eat any cake. I think that helps me say NO to cake.
