Any Detox ideas?

Monday, February 18, 2013

There is still a lot of things I have to do to get ready for my challenge but something I really want to do and something that I've heard that really does help, is a detox. I have heard of a lot of different ones but I dont know whats the healthiest and what works the best. I would like to either start it before I start the challenge or start it with the challenge.

I agree with CINCYDORA and CHRISTINASP the best way to detox is to eliminate the obvious like smoking, coffee, sugar, processed food, alcohol, white carbs (potatoes, rice, pasta) and replace with whole grains, veggies, fruit, quality protein, plenty of water, five small mealsa a day are preferable to three larger, make sure you have a good breakfast when you get up ...
and also make sure you exercise and get enough sleep

Cincydora's ideas are pretty good. With regard to getting sick as the other poster said: a lot depends on what starting position you have.
If you are used to drinking coffee, black tea, alcohol, to smoking and having a lot of sweets and processed foods, then detoxing will be quite hard and you may feel pretty ill. Then, it's better to first gradually, step by step, wean yourself off those things.
However if you're not having these things you can indeed do a whole food diet.
Or, for a few days, eat only fresh raw fruits and raw vegetables.

My experience has been that the best detox is a whole food diet. Cut sugar, salt, artificial sweeteners and processed food and you will cleanse the body of a lot of junk. You can take it a step further and cut out meat and wheat. It means more shopping and cooking but I find I get great results with less fatigue by doing that.

I tried detoxing before and found myself having the worst symptoms ever. Not only did I have to use the bathroom ALL the time, but I even had exceptionally bad diarrhea from it for weeks on end. In my opinion, it was not worth the 5 lb lost at all (which was probably just from having to use the bathroom too much). I tried a detox pill though, and perhaps it's different for everyone. I wish you the best of luck. :)
