If you want to cook healthier meals, there are basic steps you can take to achieve your goals:
1. Don’t overcook vegetables. Boiling certain vegetables removes many vital vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Try steaming instead. A steamer basket is the preferred method. You can steam vegetables in the microwave using 1-3 tablespoons of water to help create the steam or using a product like VitaChef.
2. Don’t salt your vegetables before cooking. Salt is an increasing health-issue for many Americans. It is very prevalent in processed foods. Any opportunity to reduce your daily intake should be taken. Use fresh or dried spices or no-salt products such as Mrs. Dash. If needed, slightly salt with fresh ground sea salt when plating.
3. Use spray olive oil containers versus using larger quantities of oil for cooking. Keep your healthy oils in dark bottles, away from heat, air and direct light to retain their health benefits.
