First beautiful day in a long time...

Sunday, February 17, 2013

I live in Boise, Idaho. According to the weather gurus, this has been the 4th coldest winter in the history of our dear city. It is the coldest winter in the past 75 years. Needless to say, it's been horrible!

It's been way below freezing. I can't tell you how many consecutive days we had where our high was single digits. We've had a lot of snow and we're supposed to get more later this week. It's been one of the most awful winters we've had.

Now I know anyone who lives in really cold places (Fargo, ND-anyone?) will think I'm whiny and weak. But I've spent the last couple years in California and the one thing I knew I'd have a difficult time with moving back here was the cold weather.

But, getting back to the title of my blog, yesterday was beautiful! It was sunny and only slightly breezy and it was 50 degrees! After the last few months it felt like a wonderful summer day! It was so lovely that I worked out outside for the first time in 4 or 5 months. And my sister has started to jump on the healthy train so she joined me.

We have a path here call the Greenbelt. It runs for about 10 or 12 miles through the middle of the city along the Boise river. It's beautiful: there's tons of trees, birds and other critters, and lots of lookout points along the way. It was so nice to be out in the sun and enjoying the weather. We didn't walk too long. Since my sister is new to exercise her feet got a little sore. I usually walk 3-4 miles at a time. Yesterday we did two. But it was so wonderful to be outside breathing in the fresh air. It was definitely one of the best days I've had in awhile.

Now I just need to brace myself for more snow later this week...
